Out of eight Wimbledon titles that the legend achieved, the one in 2012 had a story that the fans might have missed back then. Running a flashback in time, Federer’s former coach Paul Annacone talked about the story 11 years later, in a recent podcast episode.

As the 60-year-old tennis coach proceeded with his talks on the Swiss legend, he gave out several details about the adversity that Federer had to face during the tour because of his back injury that was of severe nature. He said, “when he won in 2012, he really, in my opinion, shouldn’t have won that tournament, the beginning of the tournament, his back went out. He wasn’t really able to practice much. And all during that time. He didn’t sweat it, it was just just there. There was nothing he could do about it.”

The revelation didn’t just end here, the former coach also added, “He had a great physio they’re doing everything they can do is try and arrest and he wasn’t going to waste 20 hours a day worrying about it. And sure enough, he ended up getting well enough to get to the semis where he beat Novak and then he got to the finals, and he beat Andy Murray.”

Presenting the tale with such details was a clear indication of Paul’s affinity for the legend which came out after such a long time. However, the bond isn’t surprising as the 60-year-old played a major part in building the legend.
