Ever since Novak Djokovic announced his decision to fly to Australia with a medical exemption, the tennis world went haywire. Everyone witnessed the case take multiple turns before the decision ending up against the Serb as he was deported from Australia. Djokovic lost his chance to compete for a 10th Australian Open crown.

The controversy also created a divide among tennis star alongside fans. While some of them wanted Djokovic to get vaccinated before competing on the ATP tour, others focused on the unfair treatment given to the Serbian star during his stay in Australia. Alexander Zverev supports Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open deportation saga

After his first-round victory against compatriot Daniel Altmaier, Zverev was asked about his take on the whole saga. The German felt that the lack of clarity from all parties involved is what led to this disaster.

He said, “It is very difficult for him to be in a position that he is in now. I think the whole world is talking about it. The whole world is talking about one of the greatest athletes to ever live in such a negative way, which I find very difficult.”

Zverev continued, “I think there should have been clarity what should have happened from the start, and he should have either been let into the country or he shouldn’t have been let into the country.”

Since his deportation, Djokovic managed to garner support from several fans as they wished the Serbian to rest at home before making a comeback on the ATP tour again. But, a point worth mentioning is that the World No.1 might face similar issues throughout the season as vaccine mandates will be taking place across tournaments, especially at Grand Slam events.
