‘She Travels With Me Everywhere’: Alexei Popyrin Recounts Dramatic Struggle to Propose to Girlfriend

Alexei Popyrin got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Amy Pederick in November 2024. And, he shared that heartwarming moment with her fans through a post on his IG account with the caption, “Forever with you🤍💍.” In the first picture, he was seen making the romantic beachside proposal by sitting on one knee and Pederick looked completely surprised in that picture. In another picture, the couple was spotted sharing an adorable kiss with each other and it was followed by a cure selfie where Amy Pederick was seen flaunting her ring. However, Popyrin recently shared how difficult it was for him to witness that beautiful moment in his life.

During a recent interview, Alexei Popyrin revealed his struggle to find the ring for the proposal. He said, “First off we’ll start with the ring. She travels with me everywhere. So for me to pop out and just get a ring for her is really difficult. So I had to find week where she wasn’t with me and the only week where she wasn’t with me was the week of the Davis Cup. And we had about a week in London where we were training. Popped out a few times to try to find some rings. Found a ring that I really wanted to get. Had it shipped to Spain, where we were playing Davis Cup and it got stuck at customs.” However, love knows no barriers!

Popyrin added, “I wasn’t able to receive it in time, so I had to send it back. Had another one, sent to brother in London. He flew it out to me overnight and gave it to me and I had it in my hand at that moment. And then, after Davis Cup we flew to Mauritius for holidays. I booked a nice little tree house on the beach, with a view of the ocean and you know proposed her at the breakfast.” Alexei Popyrin further revealed that if he hadn’t done it at breakfast, he’d have been completely nervous for the whole day.

Much to his relief, he pulled that off at the breakfast itself. Alexei Popyrin has been dating Amy Pedereick since 2019. However, they have known each other since their school days in Dubai. Alexei Popyrin previously revealed that they went to the same maths class together in Dubai. They were then just 8 years old and since then they have kept in touch with other. Popyrin and Amy, who was born in Zimbabwe to English parents, have now also become a proud owner of a house in Dubai.

Both of them are often seen traveling around the world with each other. For example, in 2021, they shared a picture of themselves from their trip to Zimbabwe. In that picture, the couple was seen enjoying a stunning sunset. Then in 2022, they went on a vacation to Dubai, and in one of their pictures from that trip, Popyrin was seen kissing his beau on the forehead and in one of those pictures Amy wrote, “Life with you🤍.” These are some of the multiple heartwarming moments featuring this adorable couple. Having graduated in physiotherapy, Amy Pederick also helps her boyfriend with his training and fitness, thus supporting his tennis career in a big way. Apart from that, she is also seen traveling with Alexei Popyring during the Tour. In 2024, when Popyrin won the Canadian Open, Amy Pederick was spotted lauding the tennis star through a post on her IG story. She wrote, “Proud doesn’t even come close ♥️♥️ you’re so incredible and beyond deserving! Enjoy every second my love Alexei Popyrin 🥹🥹.“

Not only Pederick but even Popyrin shared a few words about his girlfriend during his on-court speech. “Not just me, but my family, my girlfriend, my team, everybody around me. They have sacrificed their whole lives for me and for me to win this for them is just amazing, This is one of the few weeks when my girlfriend isn’t traveling with me and I win the tournament. I hope she comes to New York now,” Popyrin gave a shout-out to her girlfriend after winning the Canadian Open last year.

However, not everything was a bed full of roses for this couple. In 2022, Alexei Popyrin was seen struggling a bit to get past the first rounds of multiple events. By the end of that year, he only managed to win one ATP Challenger Tour title and had also fallen out of the Top 100. However, Pederick stood like a rock beside him in this tough phase! Later on during an interview with Today, she spoke about this difficult time saying, “It was really tough, mentally – very draining for him and it wasn’t easy. But he stuck through, he grinded, and he pushed through and he trained so hard in pre-season. Every single day, he was on the court for hours. He tried everything, mentally.“

Alexei Popyrin has now climbed up the ladders and he’s currently ranked 24th in the world. Pederick says she’s “incredibly proud” of what Popyrin has managed to achieve in all these years.
