Is Taylor Fritz the new face of American tennis, or does he still have more to prove?

Taylor Fritz, the highest-ranked American tennis player rose to the occasion when it mattered the most. Coming into the US Open, all eyes were on the American contingent. However, Fritz entered the finals, breaking Andy Roddick’s 21-year-old record. Oozing pride and confidence, he is set to take his tennis to new heights and looks set to make a bold statement just days ahead of the ATP Finals.

Currently playing in the ATP Shanghai Masters, Taylor Fritz, in the post-match conference was asked if his US Open success has helped him a bit coming here. “Obviously you’re in a great place in your career, having just contested at the US Open final. Do you feel like you’ve arrived as a different player this year?” asked the reporter.

Replying to this, Fritz suggested that he was playing good tennis when he arrived here last year as well. “I think last year when I was here I was also playing at a very high level. I think, I would say, the last three years of my career I think I’ve been a different player, but, I mean, obviously coming here confident, and then, you know, in a really great spot in the Race for the year, and I’m hoping to finish the year strong,” said Taylor Fritz.

Interestingly, he has won, 8 career titles throughout his career out of which, the last 7 come in those years as well. Not only this, but under the guidance of his coach Michael Russell, he has also managed to reach the quarter-finals of the 2022 Wimbledon, the 2023 US Open, and the 2024 Australian Open.

Currently ranked 7th in the world with 4,060 points, Fritz is the highest-ranked American on the men’s side. On the other hand, when it comes to the race to the ATP Finals, he sits in the 5th spot with 3,940 live points. A good performance in the Shanghai Masters will further secure his place in the Finals. While it was the first time when he made the finals of the US Open, he thinks that performances of these sorts could be repeated.

Making the finals could be a wonderful feeling for anyone. Taylor Fritz agreed to that and suggested that it felt great knowing that he played well and suggested that performances like these could be repeated. Having won 8 ATP titles in his career including 1 Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells, he fell short to Jannik Sinner, who was the best performer that day.

“It is a great feeling to have gotten to this point, knowing that I’m playing well, but I’m playing very within myself, and I feel like it’s repeatable,” said Taylor Fritz.

However, he acknowledged that there is still room for improvement and that he will keep on doing it. “Something I’ve said throughout my entire career, whether it’s when I won my first ATP point or I won my first challenger or I made my first round of 16 or whatever it is, I’ve always said once I do something once, I just feel a lot more confident in being able to do it again.”

Thus, Taylor Fritz, currently playing in the Shanghai Masters, is in full swing after his US Open run. Just a few steps away from making his way into the ATP Finals in Turin, he looks all set to keep the momentum going. Will he be able to make his way? Do let us know in the comments below!
