Tennis over the years was highly dominated by the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. However, with age taking a toll, Federer was forced to retire while Rafael Nadal is also in his final year as a professional year. This now turns the light to Novak Djokovic who is carrying the baton forward. But, with not many years left in the line for him, it is time for the young guns to come ahead and make a name for themselves.

However, as things stand, there seems to be a major problem in the attitude that the young American players carry while going into the tournament. Reflecting on the same, Rick Macci, Serena Williams‘ childhood coach in a recent interview, highlights that one major shift in attitude that the players need to emulate the success that the Big 3 had.

Rick Macci, in an exclusive ES Fancast interview, pointed out something important for the American players. He said that with top players like Djokovic, Federer, and maybe Nadal getting older, things are changing in tennis. This means there’s a chance for new players to shine.

Macci thinks American players need a new way of thinking. Instead of just hoping to win, they need to start believing they can win. He said that because the big champs might not be around much longer, the path to the later rounds of tournaments could be easier for newer players.

So, for American players, it’s time to change how they approach the game. Macci believes this change in mindset could help them go further in big tournaments, without having to face the super-experienced champs. It’s a chance for new faces to step up and make their mark in tennis.

“Now’s the Time because you got you know Djokovic isn’t going to be around forever okay even though he doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere for a while okay you got fed out the door, you know Rafa you know he’s gonna probably retire after this year, you got Murray so and so it’s wide open. You’re going to get the round of 16 or the quarters and you might not have to face someone who’s won a grand slam or doesn’t have that pedigree. You feel like I can win I expect to win instead of hoping to win so that’s different and you’ve already seen that with some guys get to the quarters and semis,” said Macci in the interview.

Thus, these words by Macci reflect the shift of attitude that the players need to have while playing in the upcoming tournaments. While American tennis is beginning to shine, Macci feels like a change in the attitude could help them flourish.
