As the tennis seasons changed, Novak Djokovic‘s trajectory in the sport also evolved. His tennis career involved Roger Federer as a rival, but now, with time, this is one more role that the Swiss tennis legend has in his life. Recently, Jannik Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, drew a parallel regarding how the Serbinator has adapted to one lesson that was first seen in Federer.

Even though both of them are quite different from each other, they have different game plans. But now that the 36-year-old Serbian tennis player has come out to be unbeatable, the reason behind his advanced game plan can be a combination of Federer’s idea and Djokovic’s intensity.

Recently, the 58-year-old tennis coach, who has trained Andre Agassi and Simona Halep, talked in a recent podcast interview with The AO Show about how Djokovic is continuously adapting his style of play with his growing age. Further, he also highlighted that he had also seen the same vision in Federer during his active tennis days.

He said, “We saw that a little bit right with Federer the last couple of years when he made that change to a slightly larger Head racket, a bit faster racket that gave him a bit more power.” Then with growing age, he also realised how it’s not easy for him to run side to side, so he changed the plan.

Just like how he evolved his game when he started to come in a lot, his coach, Ivan Ljubicic, brought out an aggressive side with the back end on the court. He added, “So we are seeing Novak do exactly the same. I think that you see him serve and volleying much more than he used to. If you remember back to the US Open final when he defeated Medvedev, he served and volleyed a ton in that particular match.”

He also stated an example from the US Open final itself, where the 24-time Grand Slam champion was looking to finish points a little bit quicker than usual. Just a few months ago, Boris Becker also made a blunt revelation and displayed a mysterious similarity between the two tennis legends.

A mysterious similarity between Federer and Djokovic

The Serbian tennis player’s former coach, in an interview with the Guardian, talked about some of the qualities that Djokovic carries that do not get much media attention. He stated, “Then he’s a perfectionist, like all superstars. He wants to play the perfect match, which in his case probably happened once or twice.”

His revelation about the 24-time Grand Slam champion talked about how he has a lot of qualities in common with Federer. Moreover, just like the Swiss tennis legend for most of his career, he was a perfectionist, just like Djokovic. On the other hand, for both of them, tennis is no less than an obsession, and they also don’t shy away from talking about a variety of subjects, apart from sports.
