Frances Tiafoe to take time off from the tour to deal with injury issues
The American announced on social media that he will be taking a break from the tour to deal with an elbow injury. Updating his fans on the situation, the 24-year-old said, “Just wanted to update you’ll I’ve been dealing with a elbow problem for a little while now. I will be taking some time off to fix the issue. Not the most ideal start of the year but imma be back soon enough. See y’all soon.”

This comes as a huge blow to Tiafoe who had a consistent run in the 2021 season. The American managed to win a title at Nottingham on the ATP Challenger Tour. Besides, he even managed a final appearance at Vienna, losing to Alexander Zverev in the summit clash. His best finish at a Grand Slam in 2021 was at the US Open where he lost in the round-of-16 to Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Frances Tiafoe began his 2022 season at Adelaide International 1 tournament in Adelaide, Australia. However, he lost to Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round, after receiving a bye in the first round. His next tournament was an appearance at the Adelaide International 2, wherein he lost in the opening round to fellow countryman Tommy Paul.
He started his Australian Open 2022 campaign with a victory over Marco Trungelliti of Argentina in a grueling five-setter thriller. However, he could not sustain the winning momentum, as he eventually lost to Taylor Fritz in the second round.
