The government of Tanzania hosted the first-ever tennis match in Serengeti on a temporary tennis court, where John McEnroe faced off against his brother Patrick McEnroe. While the entire country was amazed to see the tennis legend, the show was stolen by another incident. The McEnroe brothers encountered a snake on the court. While the snake was immediately taken care of by the wildlife Tanzanian community, it surely left the McEnroe brothers with a memorable Tanzanian event.

Despite the snake situation being omitted, the Serengeti tennis match could not be finished as the rain started to pour heavily. While the first-ever tennis match there couldn’t finish in its usual style, the game was graced by many government officials, bureaucrats, and aspiring young tennis players. Surely, the Tanzanian locals were dedicated to meeting the former ATP legend on their soil.

Environmentalists did not appreciate John McEnroe’s eight-day tennis event in Tanzania

John McEnroe and his brother Patrick McEnroe’s Tanzania visit as a promotional message for conserving Tanzanian wildlife was heavily criticized by many environmentalists. Since the Tanzanian government uses wildlife for big game hunting and money-generating resources through safari tours, the McEnroe brothers’ visit didn’t appeal to the activists much. They commented- “The fame of the McEnroe brothers and sports are being used to hide travesty on the ground.”
