The unforeseen climatic conditions at the French Open have spared no one., not even the fans. With the rise in humidity levels, even the fans present in the stands are taking a beating and a major incident occurred during the semifinal match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

While the match was at a crucial juncture in the fourth set, there was a huge shout of ‘doctor’ from the stands, which stunned everyone in the stadium. A fan had apparently fainted, leading to the match coming to a standstill. A doctor attended the fan and to everyone’s relief, the fan appeared to be out of danger and the match resumed after a short break.

The scoreline read 4-4 40-15 in the fourth set when the scream was heard. Both Sinner and Alcaraz looked visibly concerned and the atmosphere inside the Philippe-Chatrier stadium became tense. However, with the doctor’s help, the tensions were eased and the play could resume minutes later. The incident seemed to have affected Sinner as he lost his serve in the next game to enable Alcaraz to level the match.

Meanwhile, the unforeseen climatic conditions in Paris also seem to have taken a toll on the players. While Novak Djokovic had to withdraw from the tournament after suffering a knee injury in slippery conditions, the likes of Sinner and Alcaraz are also facing injury concerns. As a result, tennis legend Mats Wilander voiced his concerns.

Mats Wilander highlights ‘worrying’ signs after Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s injury concerns

Recently, Wilander was involved in a Eurosport interview in which he spoke at lengths about the physical levels of the current generation. The tennis legend even compared it with the physical levels of the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He said, “You would think one day that the ATP and the WTA would say, ‘you know what, we’re gonna play with the same tennis ball on every surface or in every tournament’, at least on the same surface.”

Further, he went on to add, “But it’s worrying, it’s definitely worrying. Of course, we’ve gotten used to Rafael Nadal and he was maybe one of the more explosive, more physically demanding players that we’ve ever had, but Alcaraz and Sinner – physically very demanding ways of playing tennis. So it’s worrying.”

Sinner and Alcaraz are currently locked in a five-set battle. However, Alcaraz is a break up in the final set and looks good to make it to the summit clash.
