The grass courts of London feel incomplete without their champion. Before the retirement of Roger Federer at the 2022 Laver Cup, there were talks that the Swiss maestro would play at the Wimbledon Championships for one final time. However, that didn’t happen as he failed to recover from his injuries in time and ultimately bid goodbye. Nonetheless, Federer remains the best player to have graced the grass-court Grand Slam tournament as the all-time leader. Two years after his retirement, rumors are circulating again in the media that Federer is set to make a comeback here, albeit in a different role.
Ever since his retirement, there have been widespread rumors on social media about the Swiss maestro’s potential comeback. While Federer has already dismissed donning the kit of a player again, there were talks going on recently that he would be featuring at this year’s Wimbledon Championships as a commentator. However, Federer remained dismissive of those rumors.
During an interview, he said, “I thought ‘well maybe commentary would maybe be a thing I’d be interested in’ and then one British journalist said ‘you’re happy to be super critical?’ I was like ‘what? I’ll be honest, is that critical?’…So I was like no I don’t want to do commentary anymore.”

Not only did Federer dismissed those thoughts but also remained scared about doing commentary as he didn’t want to be critical about the players. The same questions had arisen in 2023 but Federer only attended the tournament fromn the stands. “No plans to commentate this year,” he had said at the time. Which ignited the hope…maybe some other year?

Per Simon Graf, the former World No. 1 had also stated, “I never thought I would say this, but six months ago, I suddenly thought commentating on tennis someday. Who knows.” While no such plans of getting behind the mic exist yet, he wishes to be present at Wimbledon with his family this coming July!
Roger Federer set to bring along his family at the Wimbledon Championships 2024
Last year, the Swiss maestro made his presence felt at Wimbledon for the centenary celebrations. However, on that occasion, only his wife was present along with him while his kids were absent. This time around, Federer intends to bring along his four children to witness the action at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament.

The Swiss maestro revealed, “Yeah, making plans. Kids are pushing me there as again. I’m happy at home, but the kids said ‘No we want to come to Wimbledon this year. You were last year without us.’ Wimbledon was always my favorite tournament, will always be my favorite tournament. My heroes walked the grounds here and walked the courts here. Because of them, I think I became a better player.”
Although Federer has missed playing here, he wants to enjoy the action just from the stands. Thus, a comeback in any form, be it as a player or as a commentator, looks highly unlikely. Moreover, the Swiss maestro wants to enjoy his post-retirement life, away from the hassles of the sporting world.
