World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev lost the Australian Open 2022 final to Rafael Nadal. Consequently, Nadal became the first male player in the open era to win 21 Grand Slam titles, making history. Medvedev, however, lost his chance to win his second Grand Slam and become the first player ever to win his second slam immediately after winning his first.

After the match, Daniil was vocal about the behavior of the crowd, which he vehemently opposed for favoring Nadal the way they did. Now, World No. 15 Aslan Karatsev has voiced his opinion on his compatriot Medvedev’s complaints regarding the crowd.

Daniil Medvedev demanding crowd support doesn’t make sense to Karatsev

Daniil Medvedev has been quite vocal with his dejection about the crowd’s clear favoritism for Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open 2022 final. In fact, he even said that it has ceased his excitement to play at the biggest platforms in tennis.

However, his compatriot Aslan Karatsev has some advice for the World No. 2. According to Karatsev, “it is pretty normal” for crowds to support Rafael Nadal.

After all, the Spanish legend “made his comeback and didn’t play for almost half a year.” Thus, “of course, fans would support him (Rafa),” Aslan stated, matter-of-factly.

Moreover, he said that “the same thing happens if you play against Roger (Federer),” too. Thus, even though fans trying to distract him during his serve can be off-putting, “sooner or later, Daniil will realize that and move on,” the Russian World No. 15 advised.

In fact, Karatsev also mentioned how he went through something similar. Nevertheless, the crowd favoring your opponent does not mean that a player begins to demand their support.

Addressing Daniil Medvedev’s behavior, Karatsev stated that a player cannot tell the fans, “c’mon, you support me”. “That would not make sense,” the top seed at the Maharashtra Open said.

Nadal believes the Russian is smart enough and doesn’t need any advice. Moreover, he also said that he “felt sorry” about the way the crowd was clearly in his own favor.

Nevertheless, Nadal expressed his belief in Medvedev and stated that soon enough, the crowds all over the world will cheer for him and want him to win every match.
