Carlos Alcaraz, the blossoming talent in men’s tennis, has been creating headlines with his commendable record over the past few years. The 20-year-old Spanish star arrived at Wimbledon as the World No. 1, in the wake of a victorious campaign at Queen’s. However, his coach was the one who was in the limelight.
Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former World No. 1 player himself and now coach of Alcaraz, labeled the boy wonder as “a sick blend of Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal”. This comment sparked quite a reaction, even from the great Roger Federer himself.
According to the Express, Federer shared, “Said that? That is quite a compliment. It’s a lot to live up to. I think Carlos at his young age, the age that he is right now, he’s doing incredible things.”

Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal are the storied standard-bearers in the realm of tennis. To be likened to such esteemed players is an indication of Alcaraz’s talents and capabilities. Yet, with this accolade arrives the burden of tremendous expectations from media and fans alike. This relentless pressure is something Federer is all too cognizant of, having encountered it frequently throughout his extensive career.
The Swiss Maestro explained, “I always don’t like to put too much pressure on younger players, especially like, ‘He’s going to do this.’ But he’s the type of player who says, ‘Well, I’m coming to Wimbledon, I’m coming to win. I’m coming to Paris, I’m coming to win’.”
