The 35-year-old Gael Monfils has been a consistent performer on the ATP Tour. The Frenchman has always been a fan favorite because of his unbelievable shots on the court. However, there is some unfortunate news for his national side, Team France, for the upcoming ATP Cup. Monfils won’t be participating in the ATP Cup 2022 and as a result, Team France won’t be able to participate.
This has led to Team USA taking France’s spot at the season-opening event in Sydney. Instead of the ATP Cup, Gael Monfils has decided to compete at the two ATP 250 tournaments before the Australian Open 2022 as reported by Lorenzo Ercoli.

Surely, other players of France would be disappointed to not compete at the major event of the year.
Monfils had an interesting 2021; he got married to Elina Svitolina, the WTA star and the couple seem to be enjoying their time together. Remarkably, this year Gael Monfils also became the 11th active player to register 500 ATP career wins.

After France’s withdrawal, Team USA has gotten the opportunity to compete at the ATP Cup in Australia. They have qualified for the competition as the 16th country. Taylor Fritz will in all likeliness be taking the charge of Team USA. In addition to Fritz, John Isner, Brandon Nakashima, Rajeev Ram, and Austin Krajicek will represent their country.
Elite players like Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and others have confirmed their participation at the ATP Cup 2022. It would be a scintillating contest to watch these major players clash at the event.
