Daniil Medvedev has suffered numerous heartbreaks this season. Despite making it to the business end of the tournaments on numerous occasions, the Russian tennis star has failed to clear the final hurdle on many occasions. Last month, he reached the US Open final but lost out to World Number 1, Novak Djokovic. Further, in the recently concluded China Open, he went down fighting against Jannik Sinner despite being the favorite to clinch the title. Following that match, the 27-year-old made a surprising remark to which his wife had quite the reaction.

The former World Number 1 was joined by his wife and coaching staff at the China Open. They cheered for him vocally throughout the final against Sinner. However, they were in for a surprise from Medvedev, who is known to be quite the laugh at times.

Emotions were felt as the two players gave it their all in a nail-biting final. Eventually, it was the Italian who came out on the top. During the post-match interview, Medvedev went on to speak about the support he received throughout the tournament.

However, while trying to thank his team, Medvedev proved why he is a witty chap as he stated, “I cannot see my team.” Subsequently, his opponent, Sinner, also thanked Medvedev’s team and said, “Obviously your team… I cannot see them also.” Medvedev’s wife Daria, who was sitting in the stands, had a wry smile after her husband failed to spot her and the team. It was a funny moment, and the crowd burst into laughter after his remark.

This is not the first time Medvedev has talked about his wife and team during the post-match interview. Earlier this year at the US Open, he made a heartfelt confession about his wife.

Two years ago, Medvedev won the US Open title by defeating Novak Djokovic. However, he couldn’t repeat those heroics this year as he lost to the Serb in the final. Subsequently, he said, “I was here 2 years ago when I won. I was like what a great anniversary gift for my wife… a pretty sh*t one today. Today is our anniversary again.. I thought, come on, do it one more time.”
