The opening Grand Slam of the season ended on a bang. Rafael Nadal created history by becoming the first man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the summit clash to lift the Australian Open 2022 title. Moreover, his never-say-die attitude on the court was a treat to watch.

However, Medvedev would be disappointed not to take home the trophy after coming so close to beating the Spaniard. Other notable performers were Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini, both of whom managed a semifinal finish.

After the January extravaganza, the tennis action shifts to Rotterdam, the Netherlands where some of the top players will be in action. It is an ATP 500 tournament and the draw for the tournament is out.

The Greece international has been given the top billing and he will face World Number 47 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain in the first round. The two met last year at ATP Masters 1000 Monte Carlo Monaco where the Spaniard had to retire after the first set owing to an injury concern.

Further, the 2021 semi-finalist would aim to better his performance this year as he looks to win his first title of the 2022 season.

Defending champion Andrey Rublev is the second seed and will take on a qualifier in the opening round. The Russian had defeated Marton Fucsovics to clinch the title in 2021. They may potentially clash in the last eight this year.

Felix Auger-Aliassime, who fought valiantly against Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open, is seeded third and drawn in Rublev’s half. Further, Hubert Hurkacz is seeded fourth and will take on wildcard Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first round. Another notable mention is Andy Murray, who has been handed a wildcard entry at the ATP 500 tournament.
