As the grand slam fever for 2023 ends with the conclusion of the US Open, the tennis world is gearing up for the Laver Cup, which is scheduled to begin on September 22 and will continue till September 24. The biggest names in the sport are set to collide as Team Europe takes on Team Europe at this unique event. Although the tournament won’t be as star-studded as it was last year, this edition will feature young ATP stars like Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, and Taylor Fritz.
World number 6 Andrey Rublev, an integral part of Team Europe, has already arrived in Vancouver, the venue of Laver Cup 2023. However, the Russian had a thing or two to say about the venue while jokingly calling out Roger Federer – one of the founders of this unique event.
Andrey Rublev teases Roger Federer as Laver Cup venue may become cause for hectic travel schedule

Russian ATP star Andrey Rublev will be in action in Vancouver, Canada as part of Team Europe, as they take on Team World at the Laver Cup. Just a few days after the conclusion of this event, Rublev is also slated to take part in the China Open beginning on September 28. The ATP 500 event returns on the tour after a gap of 3 years. This also means that Rublev would have to travel all the way to China from Vancouver as soon as the Laver Cup ends on September 24.
In a recent Instagram story posted from Laver Cup’s official Instagram account, Andrey Rublev was seen teasing Roger Federer, one of the founders of the event, in a jesting manner alluding to the venue of the tournament. “Never been here before, it is my first time.. But I don’t know, Rogelio, he found a very, very close place, especially when you have to go to China.. That you have to travel first to Vancouver one week, then all the way to another part of the world.. So thanks Rogelio..”, he said.
This year will mark the sixth edition of the Laver Cup. Laver Cup 2022 is still etched in the memories of millions of tennis fans, thanks to Roger Federer’s retirement. Can this year’s edition live up to the expectations?

Young guns aim to light up Vancouver at Laver Cup 2023
Although this year’s Laver Cup lacks the star power as compared to last year when the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray graced the court, it nonetheless consists of young ATP stars like Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev representing Team Europe, and Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe representing Team World. Of course, it will be hard to match up to the hype of last year, given the emotional nature of Federer’s retirement, but the grit and competitive spirit of these youngsters look promising, nonetheless.
