Stefanos Tsitsipas is a die-hard fan of Swiss great Roger Federer and that’s a known fact. The young Greek tennis sensation has always looked at the ‘Rog’ as his biggest tennis idol. Unfortunately, though, Stefanos seems to have found himself in a GOAT dilemma as he just snubbed King Roger for another legendary icon from the world of the NBA!
On Wednesday, Tsitsipas shared a clip of him sitting for a candid session with the host of the 433 community. The host was asking him to pick his favorite GOAT player between two icons from any sport. While the Greek player initially assumed it to be an easy ride, it turned out highly unexpected. When asked to choose between Roger Federer and NBA great Michael Jordan, Tsitsipas found himself in a tricky situation. “Oh that’s a difficult one,” he said. Despite being a hardcore Federer fanboy, he couldn’t resist showing his admiration for MJ.
Apologizing to Roger, he eventually said, “I’m sorry Roger…Michael Jordan” while picking his GOAT among the two options. Even the host couldn’t stop himself from laughing hilariously. “Yeah! Okay nice,” he said while acknowledging that it was actually a tough decision to make for Stefanos. But it doesn’t mean he isn’t a follower of the Tennis Maestro anymore.

The young sensation has time and again proved his craze for Roger Federer. Earlier this year, he revealed his fondness for the Swiss icon during several media interactions.

Back in April, during the Monte-Carlos Masters event, Tsitsipas made a huge revelation regarding Federer. When asked whether he wanted to be like the Swiss great or Spanish icon Rafael Nadal, he answered, “I would say a combination of both. I know I say a lot that Roger Federer is my idol, but I find beauty in Rafael Nadal, too.” He made it clear that Federer was his idol despite the fact he also liked Nadal.

Later, he once again showered praises on Federer while remembering his showdowns with the GOAT. Talking to the Tennis Channel, he reflected on his special moments playing against Roger. “Those were my favorite matches purely because I never imagined myself stepping on the court playing against them,” he said.
For Tsitsipas, each battle against the Rog was a “majestic moment,” simply because it was “mesmerizing to get to face him on the other side of the court and to witness his excellency and the way he played the game.” He was so much in awe of the Swiss player that winning or losing for him was a secondary thought. “I enjoyed it even though I got beaten multiple times,” he said.

For those unaware, Roger and Stefanos have faced each other five times. As far as the head-to-head tally is concerned, Federer leads it 3-2 over the Greek tennis star. However, Stefanos only wanted to enjoy the moments alongside his idol without even thinking about the results. In his own words, “he is my childhood idol.”
Considering all this, it’s a bit of a surprise that when put on the spot to pick his sporting GOAT, Tsitsipas went with Jordan and not Federer. Who is your sporting GOAT though? Let us know in the comments below.
