Novak Djokovic is well-versed in how to steal the show. The Serbian faced a disappointing defeat to Jannik Sinner at the Shanghai Masters. Spectating his quest for a career 100th ATP title, Roger Federer and Carlos Alcaraz were eagerly immersed in the blockbuster from the stands. While the superstars’ eye-catching chats prompted an intriguing reaction from fans, Nole also reserved a few words for his peers.
After losing the showdown to the Italian No. 1 in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-3, Djokovic took the mic to voice his gratitude towards Federer, Alcaraz, and the Spaniard’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero during the customary award distribution ceremony. The former World No. 1 expressed not being acquainted with seeing the Swiss Maestro on the sidelines and later, proceeded to thank him, Alcaraz, and his Spaniard coach for marking their presence and captivating the already thrilling atmosphere.
He said, “Also, it’s nice to see Roger. I’m not used to seeing you in the stands. I wish you were here on the court playing with us. It’s probably the first time I’m playing in front of you. It’s great. Carlos as well. Juan Carlos as well. Thank you for coming out and being a part of this match.”

Have an interesting take?
Before walking out on the court for his doubles exhibition commitment, Federer crossed paths with Djokovic, who arrived fresh off his quarterfinal victory over Jakub Mensik. Excited upon sighting Nole, the 43-year-old hilariously called the former World No. 1 “old man” before proceeding to shake hands and laugh while making a healthy conversation.
Having lost his quest for a career 100th tour-level title, Djokovic will now rest and recover to return to his formidable best. Naturally, the Serb will be in dire need of that if he wishes to accomplish his agenda at the ATP Finals in November and, with it, seal the season on a triumphant note.
