“Our goal is to give people an experience that is so great they want to do it again!” said the Laver Cup’s chief executive officer Steve Zacks while announcing a five-year extension to the tournament’s partnership with the ATP. It all started in 2017 when Swiss legend Roger Federer walked onto center court at O2 Arena in Prague, touched the surface, and smiled to say, “It’s official. The Laver Cup will be played on a black tennis court.” 

Seven years to that day, Bastien Fachan, an author, has sparked much talk regarding this year’s black court at Laver Cup. He shared an image from Grigor Dimitrov and Alejandro Tabilo’s Uber Arena match yesterday, where Dimitrov defeated his opponent by 7(7)-6(4), and 7 (7)- 6(2). Speaking of the aesthetics of the tournament, this author tweeted, “I say this every Laver Cup, but the all-black court really looks so clean and crisp on TV.”  

“We invest very heavily,” added Zacks, before the seventh edition of the Laver Cup, got underway at Berlin’s Uber Arena on Friday. “We bring the greatest lineups we possibly can, we make the court unlike anything else – part of that is the black design for the court and court surrounds. When you look at any picture, you know it’s the Laver Cup.”

After his tweet, tennis enthusiasts commented on the thread, expressing similar delight in the tournament’s monochromatic aesthetics. Their statement echoes the organizers’ success in bringing an unusual color palette to such a prestigious tournament.

Fans praise “easy on the eyes” Laver Cup’s black court color

For example, Dimitrov and Tabilo’s Laver Cup match lasted for two hours and 15 minutes, marking Day 1’s longest match at Laver Cup Berlin in 2024. This helped fans enjoy their match without a strain.

Another fan highlighted, “Makes the racket look so pretty in the air,” commented the person. Usually, tennis racquets are made in black, green, Pacific blue, sky blue, fluorescent lime yellow, abyss grey, fluorescent orange, white and yellow. Such colors receive depths with a dark backdrop.
