Who after John McEnroe? Tennis fans were wondering who’s going to lead Team World at the Laver Cup in 2025. As per the latest news coming from Roger Federer’s Laver Cup, former world number one and eight-time Grand Slam champion, Andre Agassi has been named as the new Laver Cup Team World Captain. Agassi will take over the leadership role from fellow American tennis legend, John McEnroe who has been captaining the team since the inaugural edition in Prague in 2017.
Agassi will attend this year’s event in Berlin to prepare for his new leadership role and be formally introduced as the captain of Team World. After hearing this historic announcement, Agassi said, “I am truly honored to accept the invitation to become the Laver Cup Team World Captain.” He will lead the team in San Francisco in the 2025 edition of this iconic tournament.
Andre Agassi went on to add, “In just seven short years since the Laver Cup began, it’s been so enjoyable for fans, including myself. To watch the greats of the game team up and compete against one another in this incredible team environment.” Agassi believes the first and foremost thing for him as the captain of the Team World will be to understand and manage players’ needs throughout the year. He wants to get to know them better and create a good bond with each other. After that, he wants to figure out the right matchups. The matchups which would give the team the best chance to win and bring home the Laver Cup.

Currently, Team Europe leads the scoreline against Team World by a 4-2 margin. But fans believe the ship is in safe hands. What does Andre Agassi think about this? Agassi said, “I hope I can build the rapport, respect and trust with the players as John has done. And I can’t wait to take on this role, it’s not one I’m taking lightly.” Even the 65-year-old John McEnroe believes Andre Agassi is the right person to step into his shoes and carry forward the legacy of the Team World in the iconic Laver Cup.
