But one of his twin boys outshone the father, casting light on how Federer’s fame knows no bounds. A single reaction encapsulated the entire life of Roger Federer. Despite his obvious enthusiasm for the South African team, a sweet father-son moment was caught between the match. Dressed up as proper rugby fans in South Africa’s green-and-gold colors, the Federer family supported the Springboks’ victory against New Zealand in a thrilling World Cup final. Roger and Mirka, along with their twin sons and daughters, were present at the stand to show their true Springboks fan side. But immensely-statured Federer, being who he is, stole the show midway through.

In between the matches, there came an endearing moment when the announcer mentioned the tennis legend’s name, and for a hot second, the rugby game became all about the tennis legend. Upon being acknowledged, the 42-year-old Swiss tennis legend made waves in the crowd by raising his hands. But that was hardly the major highlight. After witnessing his father’s renown, Leo Federer standing alongside him flashed a cute smile in response to the former tennis legend’s fame.

While the father-son duo was engrossed in the match when this incident took place, the smile that Federer’s son flashed said it all about his global fame, beyond the limits of the tennis world. Although he has seen the father play on the tennis court, watching your father grab attention for a moment in the Rugby World Cup final is a huge thing.

While sometimes the former world number one has embraced his fame, there were times when he created a distance as a tennis legend to be a normal father in front of his kids. Just a few months ago, the 42-year-old family man disclosed how one quirky fan thing irked him the most in front of his children.

The other side of Roger Federer’s fame

A few months ago, in an interview with Credit Suisse, the 20-time Grand Slam champion discussed the attention he receives as a tennis player. While he made it clear that attention is certainly flattering, sometimes things can go out of hand. He explained a situation where there is one aspect of his popularity that literally irritates him.

He said, “I can understand it when fans pull out their phones to take a photo of me – they might never see me again and want to seize the opportunity. But, as a family man, I get really annoyed when somebody takes a photo of my children without asking.” He appreciated how memories are important, but at the same time, as a parent, he found it pleasing when others tried to get involved with his kids, even if it was just for a picture.
