Roger Federer’s career has been one for the history books. But the sporting saga of his family does not end with him. In an exclusive feature, Lynette Federer, mother of the Swiss Maestro, opened up on another branch of the family tree that thrives in the realm of sports. And they are none other than Federer’s sister, Diana’s children.

Diana Federer, who has stayed away from the public eye, is also the devoted mother of a pair of twins, Ramon and Emilie. And much like their uncle, Roger Federer, they also share a fervent passion for sports. Lynette, Federer’s 72-year-old mother, spoke about how she loves to play with her grandchildren. “Especially our daughter’s children are often with us.” 

Further illustrating her point, Roger Federer’s mother added, “I think it’s very nice to see her so active and sporty. That’s somehow in our DNA.” And it is quite true. While Ramon excels in both tennis and football, Emilie is a dedicated volleyball player. And it comes down to their collective sense of enthusiasm for athletics. 

Even Lynette Federer is not far behind in this arena. A board member of the Roger Federer Foundation, Lynette’s interest in sports is not confined to only supporting her son. She herself likes to play tennis along with golf as well. Not only that, to keep her fit, she frequently does pilates and even goes to the gym with her husband, Robert. 

However, taking long walks in the seasons of summer and winter with Robert is her favorite thing to do. Apart from that, Federer, who is the proud grandmother of six, is often busy playing with Diana’s children. Although she admitted later on that, “They are now teenagers, and I can’t keep up with that anymore. But that’s also perfectly fine!” However, her support for her grandchildren’s interest in sports caught the attention of the fans. And it reminds us of the time when Roger Federer showed his gratitude to his mother for being supportive throughout his career.

After Roger Federer played his match in the Laver Cup of 2022, we were all teary-eyed during his emotional speech. Federer, who has always been vocal about his parents’ support throughout his career, also shared his reflections on his mother’s contribution to shaping her career. “I find it always funny – we always blame my mum for everything because, without her, I would not be here, of course. So, thanks to my parents, you have been amazing.”

Roger Federer has previously admitted how his parents introduced the sport of tennis in his life. Learning from a very young age, he also later revealed how he received his parents’ unconditional support when he decided to take up tennis professionally. Even now, Lynette takes this legacy forward and tries to build intrigue regarding sports in her grandchildren.
