Exotic vacations. They seem to be right up the Federer family’s alley. In fact, Roger Federer once revealed, “My favorite destination would have to be the Maldives. I love a beach vacation with my family.” So the last time the legend and his family enjoyed a beach holiday, we got “Fast & Furious💨: Tuk-Tuk Edition🛺” in Thailand. This time, though, Federer traveled 800 miles east to a country with 2000 miles of coastline, where nothing’s too far away from pristine white-sand beaches. Vietnam.

Considering the Swiss Maestro’s love for beaches, how could the Federer clan not visit the coastal town of Hoi An? Known for its Ancient Town, the Vietnamese town is a one-time trading port. Per Vietnam Tourism“Outside the Old Town, two-lane roads slice through waving rice fields and emerge at a frothy coastline. Stay a couple of days, and Hoi An’s easygoing beauty and lantern-lit nights may leave you hopelessly beguiled.” Well, that’s precisely what Federer is doing!

According to multiple Vietnamese sources, Nguyen Thanh Hong, director of the Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the 42-year-old, along with his wife, Mirka, and four kids, is on a private vacation at a resort in Dien Ban Town, about 3.7 miles from downtown Hoi An Ancient Town. Although Federer hasn’t posted anything about his first trip to Vietnam yet (maybe we’ll get a post-Thailand-like photo haul), many fans have. And from the looks of it, the 20-time Grand Slam champion couldn’t stay away from the inviting tennis courts at the hotel for long enough!

In a 2023 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Federer revealed, “I don’t play much tennis anymore, other than with the kids. As a former player, to book a court and get someone to hit with you is a process, so you end up not doing it.” But that wasn’t the case in Hoi An. Apart from meeting fans during breakfast at the resort – following which one of them described the Swiss as “exceptionally amicable” – many got to witness him live on the tennis courts. And, of course, shared them online.

That interview with the Wall Street Journal was during another beach visit to the Hamptons. Booking a court and finding someone to play with isn’t necessarily a process Federer enjoys, but when he gets the opportunity, he always takes it. “On vacation, I just played with our friends in the Hamptons. I’m not super competitive. It’s just nice to be out there and then sit on the terrace and let the sweat go a bit.” And the best part is, he always has hitting partners with him!

“All four kids love it,” Federer revealed. “The girls didn’t love it in the beginning, but as they get better, they’re enjoying it and playing points now. They were up at [John] McEnroe Academy in East Hampton.” And as for his sons? They went to play at Federer’s best friend’s academy during yet another coastal vacation. This time in Mallorca. “The boys were in Mallorca at the [Rafa Nadal] camp for a couple of days.”

Roger Federer, who put down his racquet after over a two-decade-long career in September 2022, is enjoying his post-retirement life with fun-filled adventures. With co-chairing events like the Met Gala and going to Formula 1 races, Federer’s schedule is still just as full as it was during his time on Tour.

He is finding a different type of happiness in these quiet times, away from the spotlight. And when various fans across the world captured the 20-time Grand Slam champion in Vietnam, their excitement was palpable. However, this is not his first trip of the year. Before visiting Vietnam, Roger Federer also went on a vacation with his family in Thailand.

In one picture, he was posing with his wife at the beach, while another one revealed his fun time playing with his kids. Captioning the post, “And that’s a wrap,” he shared a glimpse of that famous Tuk-Tuk ride with his parents, as well as pictures and things of everything that makes Thailand the exotic country it is. These posts gave fans a peek into a different side of the tennis icon, which they absolutely love.

With tournaments and new champions being crowned, the tennis world continues to buzz, but Roger Federer’s legacy endures. However, now that he has stepped away from the Tour, the player who used to rule the courts couldn’t be more content to spend time with his family off the courts.
