20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer is more than just the tennis GOAT. The Swiss legend won the hearts of millions of fans all over the world, and his actions continue to do so, even after his retirement. Through Federer’s venture, the Roger Federer Foundation, the athlete continues to make a massive impact on the world, marking two decades since its work began.

The Roger Federer Foundation marked its 20th anniversary, celebrating 20 years of making a change for the better. Federer reminisced about the beginnings of the organization, which was on Christmas Eve 2003 when he signed the documents alongside his parents. “I never could have imagined how incredibly exciting and fulfilling the journey would be,” he says.

What started as a small project in South Africa, eventually went on to leave big footprints. The foundation has been able to impact the lives of 2.5 million children, giving them access to preschool education.

Roger Federer makes his giant mark on the world off the court with his foundation

While most fans remember 2003 as the year Roger Federer announced himself to the world with his win at Wimbledon, it was the year that the tennis GOAT started his foundation. Fresh off a Grand Slam victory at 22, he decided it was time to help those in need, setting up the foundation alongside his parents.

The beginnings were humble, working in Port Elizabeth and offering children scholarships. Eventually, the foundation’s success and Federer’s drive allowed them to expand into South Africa’s neighboring countries.  Over the years, it has expanded to serving six countries in Southern Africa, as well as Federer’s home country, Switzerland.

Alongside his success on the tennis court, Federer became an active participant in the foundation’s work, interacting with the many kids they reached out to. The two decades were not only a period of competitive success for the athlete, but a period where he was able to have an impact on millions of lives.

The tennis GOAT took a moment to thank everyone involved in the foundation’s success. “A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past two decades. We wouldn’t have been able to impact the lives of so many children without you,” he said in a post on X.
