Carlos Alcaraz has once again played the role of guardian angel to Roger Federer! The Swiss Maestro’s Wimbledon record (eight-time) was hanging in thin air, with the threat of Novak Djokovic’s aspiration for an eighth title. Thanks to Alcaraz, his milestone achievement is safe for the second time in a row. “Give credit where credit is due” might be the expression we are looking for right now. But the question is: has Federer spoken on the matter?
Praising Alcaraz for his spectacular run at Wimbledon, his idol Nadal has shared his congratulations to his countryman. Djokovic has chimed in too, saying, “He was the better player from the beginning until the end… I was inferior on the court.” Naturally, the next in line was Federer. But Federer remains conspicuously silent on this momentous victory of the Spaniard. As a result, it has sparked widespread speculation among fans, especially after Alcaraz saved Federer’s Wimbledon records from Djokovic. Moreover, Federer and Wimbledon go hand in hand!

The 20-time Grand Slam champion was the same age as Alcaraz (21) when he conquered his maiden title at the All England Tennis Club. More than two decades have passed since then and in the meantime, Federer’s Wimbledon trophies have only increased in number. However, when his long-term rival, Djokovic, came close to his former player’s records, we held our breath to wait for another history on the same ground. And it has been going on since 2022, when he won his last Wimbledon title.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz, an underdog in this context, has come rushing by to claim his victories since 2023 and has added a fourth Grand Slam to his tennis story this season. This has dashed the hopes of Djokovic, who has already broken the records of Federer in other aspects. Be it surpassing Federer’s Grand Slam count by an extra 4, or his 14 hard court Grand Slams (three more than Federer), Djokovic has shone through in his own way.

Djokovic, who holds a 27-23 lead over Federer on-court and has stayed at the top for more weeks than Federer, has yet to extend his Wimbledon record to outshine the 42-year-old former player. Among the age-old rivalry of the tennis greats, Alcaraz stands poised, with his consecutive Grand Slam victory this season in the French Open and now at Wimbledon. Although he has unintentionally saved Federer’s historic records at Wimbledon, he has no intention of stepping into the picture of the champions, as he himself confessed after winning.

“I think fighting, believing.” According to him, that’s the key to his success of winning back-to-back Grand Slams this season. The third seed has produced his classy moves on all surfaces, be it clay or grass, completing the career surface slam at age 21. However, he remains humble as ever. “It is a huge honor for me to be part of those players who have achieved Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year. They are huge champions.”

Further adding, the former U.S. Open champion said, “I don’t consider myself as a champion yet, not like them, but I will keep going to build my path, my journey. It is a huge honor for me,” he said after the match.” Calling Novak Djokovic as an “unbelievable fighter,” Alcaraz further stated how “difficult” it was for him to win against the former World No. 1.
However, blowing past all the difficulties, Carlos Alcaraz is “glad” that he found a solution to defeat the seven time champion of Wimbledon. Concluding his statement, he said, “I’m happy to be in this situation.” Therefore, with or without the seal of approval from Roger Federer, we all can be certain of one thing: Carlos Alcaraz’s dominance in tennis is one to remember for years!
