“It was an unforgettable farewell to professional tennis”. Roger Federer‘s farewell is still known to be one of the most emotional evenings in tennis history. While it somehow became a lesser-discussed topic with time, Amazon Prime’s decision to film the period made everyone go through flashbacks of the time when the former pro, dressed in blue, stood among thousands of fans. While Matteo Berretini was also a part of the event, he recently took a moment to remember the night.
It has been nearly two years since Roger Federer hung his racket for good. While his legacy never allows him to stay distant from the tennis world, the Swiss tennis maestro also made a gesture to share how much he misses his beloved sport. He shared an adorable slideshow of the night at the Laver Cup when he bid farewell to his fans, co-players, and every single entity belonging to the tennis world.
Sharing a post that contained multiple pictures from September 2022, the Swiss tennis maestro wrote, “Scrolling through my photo library and reminiscing about the Twelve Final Days, it was an unforgettable farewell to professional tennis with all my amazing fans, friends and family in London.” As soon as he did, Matteo Berrettini was quick to board the ship of memories alongside Federer and therefore reshared the clip on his Instagram. Expressing the feeling behind being a part of his farewell evening, Berrettini wrote, “It was an honour to be there RF”.

There were several other members present in the video. While Matteo Berrettini gave him a heads-up by sharing it on his social media, it clearly justifies the claims that the Italian has made of idolizing the Swiss tennis maestro for a long time. This wasn’t the first time Italian ATP star Matteo Berrettini had flashbacks of the night when Roger Federer bid farewell to the tennis world.
When Berrettini was asked “Have you been given any advice about tennis, and how to deal with its pressures, that has become valuable life advice as well?”
Just a few days ago, Matteo explained that his perspective was down to an emotional conversation with Federer. “When I was in London [last year] busy celebrating Roger Federer’s last match, he was crying because he was sad about leaving something that he loved so much,” Berrettini said in an interview.

Along with that, he also mentioned how Roger Federer told them they were lucky to continue playing and one crucial advice that followed. “…And was telling us, ‘you guys have no idea how lucky you are, that you can keep playing. I would give a lot to just be able to play one more match, have one more win, one more important tournament,” the Italian added.
The whole tennis world is currently taking moments to remember the period when tennis legend Roger Federer was about to end his career. With the documentary based on his exit set to capture the screens soon enough, the frequency of flashbacks is expected to increase.
