‘Laver Cup will be the last match of my career!’ These were the words of the Swiss maestro Roger Federer when he announced his retirement through the letter. At 41 years of age, with more than 1500 matches under his racquet, Federer bid goodbye to tennis at the Laver Cup in 2022. A beautiful yet heart-breaking ending, goodbyes which no one wanted to bid. However, what we saw on the court was just a fleeting glimpse of the upheaval of emotion that he felt. And the Swiss Maestro is ready to reveal what happened behind the scenes in the last 12 days of September 2022!

We heard Rafa rightly say, ‘It’s painful!’ as they both were seen crying on the same bench. However, we did not see, Federer living through the mountain of memories, that rushed back as he prepared for the last few days on the court. Every tennis fan can starkly remember the day when Federer said goodbye to tennis. With tears in his rivals’ eyes, Mirka by his side, and Crown stunned into silence! However, a few months back, Federer said that he didn’t want to revisit his retirement. And here we are!

Before the Swiss ace read his farewell letter to his followers on his Instagram account. He had faced a long chain of injuries and recoveries amidst the Covid-19. Consequently, realizing the limits of his body, he decided to end his professional career. And recently when he was questioned about his last few years, Federer gave an unanticipated reply, I’m really relieved, if that makes any sense. I mean, the last few years have been tough with my knee.
