At that tournament, he had a disappointing quarter-final defeat against Hubert Hurkacz. Following this loss, Federer suffered a knee injury that has kept him away from tennis ever since.

Subsequently, he underwent knee surgery to repair the damage done to his right knee. The rehabilitation process has taken time with age not by his side. However, Roger Federer?revealed earlier this year that he plans to make a comeback at the Laver Cup next month. But he has received yet another injury blow ahead of his comeback tournament.
Roger Federer unlikely to play at the Laver Cup
The Swiss maestro faces a race against time to get back to 100% fitness ahead of the Laver Cup. However, his quest to make a comeback at the tournament has received another major setback as his recovery has hit a fresh obstacle.
Federer had returned to light training back in August this year. Additionally, he also shared glimpses of his practice sessions with his fans on social media.

However, Federer reportedly has liquid in his right knee again and it has become inflamed. This, in all probability, will rule him out of the Laver Cup, commencing on 23rd September.
Rafael Nadal unsure of Laver Cup participation
Like Federer, Spanish legend Rafael Nadal?could also miss this year’s Laver Cup following his disappointing US Open exit. Talking about his upcoming tournaments, Nadal said, “I need to go back [home]. I need to fix things, life, then I don?t know when I going to come back.”?
