Roger Federer may have hung up the racket two and a half years ago, but let’s be honest, did anyone really think he’d stay away from tennis for long? Even after his farewell, the Swiss icon continues to be an active presence in the tennis world, making appearances at major events and giving back to the community. Back in October 2024, he made an appearance at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, where he even shared a practice session with Carlos Alcaraz. And now, he’s back in action once again, this time in France!

The former World No. 1 was spotted playing tennis in La Courneuve, France, as part of an event for his sponsor, Uniqlo. But this wasn’t just another star-studded exhibition. Federer was there to play with children from the ‘Fête le Mur’ association, a program designed to introduce tennis to kids from disadvantaged communities.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion’s involvement with the project isn’t new. Nine months ago, he inaugurated a refurbished court in the same area, a facility originally built by French tennis legend Yannick Noah. During the event, Federer played tennis with the children and also distributed Uniqlo clothes, making their day even more special!

The Swiss Maestro’s commitment to making a difference extends far beyond tennis. On February 14, he took a trip to South Africa, working on behalf of the Roger Federer Foundation to promote education and growth for children. During his address, he drew a powerful parallel between his journey in tennis and the foundation’s mission. He said, “I worked tirelessly to achieve success in tennis. It demanded much from me, but I was fortunate to have guidance and opportunities. That’s what I want to provide for others, a chance for growth and success.”

Whether it’s through charity work or simply picking up a racket for fun, Federer’s love for the game—and his desire to give back—remains as strong as ever.

When Roger Federer said goodbye to tennis for the last time

Though he continues to be involved in the sport, Roger Federer’s professional career came to an emotional close at the 2022 Laver Cup. After 24 years on tour, he left behind a legacy of 103 singles titles, 20 Grand Slams, and countless unforgettable moments. His final match was a doubles showdown alongside longtime rival and friend Rafael Nadal. The duo took on Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe in a dramatic match that stretched past midnight. Though Federer and Nadal fell 4-6, 7-6(2), 11-9, the result hardly mattered. The night belonged to Federer, and the atmosphere was electric—standing ovations, tears, and a wave of gratitude from fans across the world.

In an emotional on-court interview with Jim Courier, Federer addressed the crowd, and said, “It’s been a wonderful day. I’m happy, not sad. I enjoyed tying my shoes one more time, I knew everything I did was going to be for the last time. I feared something would go wrong. My calf would go or my back would lock, but I made it through.”

And just like that, it was the end of an era. Whether mentoring young players, supporting social causes, or simply stepping onto the court for the love of the game, Roger Federer continues to be a legend.
