Twenty-year-old ATP ace Ben Shelton is all pumped up to appear in his first-ever Laver Cup as part of Team World, scheduled to begin on September 22. Beaming with confidence, Sheldon looks to make a mark and help his team secure victory over Team Europe for 2 consecutive years.

As reported by Eurosport, Shelton took a dig at all his critics and expressed satisfaction for proving them wrong. “You know, when the announcement first came out, I see all these comments on Instagram, ?Oh, oh, why did you take him? Why? Why this guy?… Coming into the US Open it was like, ?OK, I really have something to prove?. I wanted to show people that maybe I deserved to be on the team or the people who said that I didn’t, kind of prove them wrong.. I had a pretty good run here, and I’m happy that hopefully I was able to prove a few people wrong?, he said.

However, in a recent interview with GQ, the 20-year-old admitted that there is one quality of his idol’s rival Novak Djokovic that he tries to incorporate in his own game – the Serb’s ability to thrive under adverse situations and turn all the negativity and hatred around him into a drive to win and achieve more accolades.
