There was an era in tennis when the ‘Big 3’ dominated the game. However, there comes a time when the players have to hang their boots. The same happened with them as well. Roger Federer has retired from the game. Rafael Nadal is also considering retirement, while Novak Djokovic still has some time to go. With them gone, the young guns have come in as they look to make an impact on the game. Giving his insights on the same, Djokovic, the 24-time grand slam winner, revealed how the future of tennis looks at the moment.

However, while describing the future and his current rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic became a bit nostalgic. He remembered the thrilling encounters he had with the legends of the game.

Novak Djokovic has recently made it clear that the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz is promising for the sport. However, his heart still beats for his longstanding rivals, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic’s remarks shed light on the times when the Big 3 used to dominate tennis. And with them gone, how the young guns have come to carry forward their legacy.

Djokovic admitted to Alcaraz’s brilliance. He even described their encounters at Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and Cincinnati to be some of the best matches he has played. He admits that these matchups have brought out the best in him as well as in the Spaniard.

However, despite the modern-day rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz gaining momentum, he still misses the old rivalry with the then-favorites and the legends of the game. In his interview, he also mentioned Andy Murray to be one of those with whom he had the best rivalries.

“The future of tennis is looking good, with Carlos [Alcaraz] leading that field. We had some thrilling encounters with the finals of Wimbledon and also Roland Garros and Cincinnati which was the best 3-set match. I think it’s really great for our sport that rivalries are happening. But know the rivalries with Federer and Nadal, and also with Andy Murray, you know… right up there for me. I have played Carlos just 3-4 times. So hopefully I will play him as many times as I played the other guys. I will be playing for years to come. But you know, I doubt that, so let’s see how it goes,” said Novak in the interview.

While the Big 3 had crossed each other’s way multiple times, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have only played each other 4 times. Those, according to Novak, are nothing compared to the encounters he had with his main rivals.

However, he hopes to have more clashes with the Wimbledon champ in the future while creating a new rivalry in the sport to keep the spirit of the game alive. In today’s tennis, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have captured the stage as the two battle it out for the best in the game.

Carlos Alcaraz’s main rival makes an astonishing claim

In multiple interviews, Carlos Alcaraz has come up to cite that the 22-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner is his main rival in the game. However, the Italian player offers a different opinion on the same. In the interview, he said that at the moment, tennis is dominated by Alcaraz and Djokovic, thereby creating one of the biggest rivalries in sports at the moment.

He went ahead to mention that though he might be a good player, at the moment, he is nowhere close to achieving the feats of these players. Sinner also suggested that he was working hard on himself to make a stronger comeback so that he could be up on the list as well.
