Reflecting on the same, the director of the tournament came ahead and made an honest confession about how snubbing the young Spanish player for the British player paid the price for him.

In 2021, when deciding on players for the Rotterdam tournament, ATP Rotterdam Director Richard Krajicek chose to give a chance to Andy Murray over Carlos Alcaraz. However, a few months later, things took a U-turn and against all the odds, Carlos Alcaraz became the number 1 in the world.

This came out as a sudden shocker to him who rejected Alcaraz for Andy Murray at that time. Looking back, Krajicek openly admits, “In 2021, Alcaraz asked for a WC to play in Rotterdam. I rejected it and we invited Murray. 18 months later, he became world No. 1. I hope I won’t make a similar mistake again.”

This honest confession now became a powerful lesson for the director. It taught him the importance of being open to unexpected outcomes in tennis. At a time when he rejected Carlos Alcaraz to go out with Andy Murray paid heavily for him.

At 36, Andy Murray is in the final years of his tennis career. However, the British legend does not wish to quit anytime soon despite facing major criticism from the fans. As things stand, he will now be looking to play in the challengers to get his long-lost form.

“This year, I’ve won basically all of them and I can’t win a single match! You need to perform in competition, that’s the only thing that counts. I may have to go to the Challengers,” said Murray.
