Reilly Opelka, an American tennis sensation, has fully recovered from a hip injury that sidelined him since August last year. He was set up for a comeback last month, but a wrist injury delayed his plans. Opelka reflects on his troubles and is grateful for the surgery. He believes he will be in his best shape once he addresses the wrist issue. He reflects on the early days of his career, cherishing every moment in the game.

Opelka shared, “I was never worried about someone being maybe about not being good enough or not. I mean, I think we never had the mindset of like, going and like winning these tournaments. It was just to kind of have fun and get better.” Many young athletes may relate to what he said, which highlights the value of enjoying the journey rather than obsessing about the end goal.

His anticipation surged and his father’s importance in influencing his perspective on the game became apparent. Opelka recalled that weekends were filled with various activities, not just matches and training. “My dad and I would drive down on the weekends, and we go to a fun restaurant, stop, we’d see other things. It wasn’t just tennis.” Opelka made a point. This method, in his opinion, prevented his young mind from becoming stuck in the competitive aspect of the tennis world. Instead, each journey to a tournament became an examination of something beyond the sport itself.
