Andre Agassi was a trailblazer in the 90s for American tennis. He, along with Pete Sampras and John McEnroe, dominated the men’s circuit. In a podcast, the American legend talked about his belief in God and how one cannot always rely on a higher power to get results in the real world.

The eight-time Grand Slam champion has faced numerous hardships over the course of his career. In the podcast, he reminisced about his childhood, career, and the difficulties he has faced to date, among other topics.

Andre Agassi opened up about the role of God

Agassi opened up about his perspective and the role that God plays in the life of human beings. In his podcast appearance in March 2021, he was asked if he believed in God. Agassi replied, “Absolutely.” He added, when asked if he felt the presence of a higher power in him during his matches, “We don’t have a say in what our talents are.”

Furthermore, he elaborated on his perception of God’s role. He said, “He doesn’t control winning or losing; I don’t believe that he controls how I hit a tennis ball.” Diving a bit deeper into the topic, he said, “I think it’s a process, it’s participation. And if you allow yourself to embrace that, I think it allows you to be the best that you can be.”

Agassi concluded by saying, “Wisdom on the tennis court is something that you can find in life by being aware of that presence in every person, place, and moment.”

The American tennis legend was one of the few players to win a Career Grand Slam. Apart from that, he has eight major titles and an Olympic gold medal. Agassi has led a legendary career with 60 singles titles to his name.
