Such has been the stature of the Swiss Maestro, that he is considered one of the greatest players to have played the sport of tennis. Recently, there was another player talking big about the former World Number One.
The 2023 Wimbledon Championships has been going on in full swing. Gripping tennis matches have kept fans glued to the grass courts at Wimbledon. On Friday, a massive upset took place on Court 1 when American tennis star, Christopher Eubanks defeated local favorite, Cameron Norrie. After his big win, Eubanks has special words for Federer.

During the post-match interview after his second-round win, the World Number 43 revealed taking inspiration from Federer. Additionally, he also mentioned the Swiss maestro’s prime quality that took him by awe.
Revealing about his tennis idol, Eubanks went on to say, ?I watched a lot of Federer growing up. He was the guy that to this day, I still go back & try to find his old matches & pick little things up. He was a far better mover, a lot better at net. Really just better at everything.?

The American tennis star hasn’t shied away from speaking about Federer time and again. Earlier this year, Eubanks explained how Federer’s influence changed his backhand game. Just like Federer, Eubanks preferred single-handed backhands instead of the traditional two-handed backhands. This significantly helped him during his upset second-round win yesterday.

The 27-year-old American is enjoying one of his most promising Wimbledon campaigns. He has breezed into the third round with two power-packed performances at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament.

In the first round, the American knocked out his Brazilian opponent, Thiago Monteiro in four sets. Further, in a similar outcome, Eubanks required four sets to overcome the challenge of Norrie. The World Number 43 is looking solid and will hope to dig deep at this year’s Wimbledon. He will take on Australia’s Christopher O’Connell in the third round.
