It was the year 2020. Dominic Thiem had entered his fourth Grand Slam final and his maiden final appearance at the US Open. On the previous three occasions, the Austrian had finished second-best, losing all the three finals. However, in a thrilling summit clash against Alexander Zverev at the US Open, Thiem clinched the title, defeating the German in five sets.

But things haven’t gone his way since his maiden Grand Slam title victory. Thiem has suffered from injuries and an inconsistent run of form across the tournaments. Additionally, he missed the latter half of the 2021 season and the start of this season owing to a wrist injury. At the French Open this year, he lost in the opening round against Hugo Dellien. Recently, he talked about his road to recovery for the upcoming grass-court season.
Dominic Thiem looking to regain 100% fitness
Earlier this week, Thiem took to Instagram to update his fans about his training and recovery sessions. He said, “Hey guys! It’s been a while! I spent my last days on the one hand, at Lake Neusiedl and on the other hand on the tennis court. Lake Neusiedl is a great place to recharge and I love the amazing nature.”
Further, he added, “My training sessions have mainly focused on completing an immense number of tennis strokes daily. Those days were very good for me, powered the energy and progress in training! Those steps are really important for my process!”

How has Thiem performed on his comeback?
Things haven’t been going Thiem’s way ever since his comeback in March, this year. The 28-year-old is yet to win a match this season, having first-round exits in the six tournaments he’s played in.
