After his Wimbledon win against Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz has not had great results in the tournaments that followed. He did not emerge as a winner in any of the Masters, the US Open, and other tournaments that he participated in including the two recent ones, the China Open and the Shanghai Masters.

He lost at the China Open against Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. While at the Shanghai Masters, he went down against Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. Given the goal that he had set for himself to be achieved at the end of the year, it seems unlikely that the performance he has now will continue. Talking about the same, the Spaniard opens up about how his recent loss has given him a reality check.

Earlier in one of the interviews this year, Carlos Alcaraz mentioned that he is not happy about losing his No. 1 ranking. And that goal by the end of the year is going to be to get that ranking back.

But given his loss, it seems that he is getting farther away from his goal. He was in an interview recently where he was asked about this goal. The interviewer asked him that does he still felt he could chase Novak with his current performance.

He responded, “Well, this loss I needed to be a little bit farther. It’s going to be tougher if I want to be No. 1. I have a few tournaments ahead, so I’ll try to do my best. I’ll try to, you know, win them, if I want to have a chance to end the year as No. 1. I don’t know, but right now I lose a lot of opportunities to make it.”

It clearly shows in his answer that he is certainly less confident as he is losing matches left and right. Not just that, he also lost a match to a much low seeded player which again is something that his fans don’t expect of him. Naturally, all fans hope he does achieve his goal of taking Novak down along with another goal he has inspired by his idol Rafael Nadal.
