In yet another thrilling episode of the Wimbledon Championships, Rune crossed the third round of the Grass Slam for the first time in his career. The sixth seed beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a tie-breaker set. The Dane was infamous for his on-court tactics and was compared with the super brats and the aggressive players of Tennis in the early stages of his career.

The nerve-wracking moment for the Dane made him emotional like never before. The twenty-year-old played the match with great focus and composed himself like never before. Speaking of his win, Rune said, “It?s a great moment. I?m super happy to be in the 4th round for the 1st time here. It?s also the first year I ever won a match here. It?s going much better than I expected. Wow. I don?t know what to say. I?m so happy.”
With this win, the Dane has now continued to the second week of all the Grand Slams this season. Rune also had his fair share of wins in a tie-breaker set though not more than Frances Tiafoe and Novak Djokovic. But he is getting there. In a humble gesture, the young ATP player showed his gratitude to the crowd.

In an on-court interview, Rune thanked the crowd for supporting him despite the game being held in a small court. He said, “It was unbelievable. It?s one of the most fun matches I?ve ever played. It?s a quite small court, but you guys made it absolutely amazing. It?s a great moment, for sure. It?s going much better than I expected.??But what shocked the audience more was a move from Fokina.
Fokina ‘served’ the match to the Dane on a silver platter
The thirty-fourth seed displayed exemplary skill and sense throughout the game, except for his last serve. Fokina almost had the match, with an 8-5 lead, but when the scorecard read 8-8, the Spaniard had to serve, and this cost him the match. He opted for an underarm serve which numbed every person watching the match, leaving the fans disappointed.

Rune had already saved five match points till then, and he just needed a shot to use them. The crosscourt forehand of Fokina did the job for the Dane as he sealed the match with a lightening fast return to the serve. The 20-year-old said that it was unbelievable on the part of Fokina to opt for such a serve because he had been serving amazingly throughout the match. But to cash the opportunity, Rune revealed that he had to move really fast, and he did!
