Minutes ago, the French Open bid farewell to Rafael Nadal in what was potentially his final match at the tournament. The Spaniard gave his all but couldn’t get past an in-form Alexander Zverev, who defeated Nadal in straight sets. Subsequently, Nadal was left emotional with the support he’s had throughout the tournament and his career. During the post-match interview, he gave a touching speech, due to which emotions were drawn from Nadal’s wife, Maria Xisca, as well.

In his potential farewell speech at Roland Garros, Nadal said, “The amount of energy…it’s difficult for me to talk. I don’t know if it’s gonna be the last time here in front of all of you. I’m not sure. But if it’s the last time I enjoyed it.”

Further, he went on to add, “The crowd was amazing during the whole week of preparation. Today the feelings I have are difficult to describe in words. For me, it is so special to feel the love of the people in the place I love the most.” Nadal’s words left his wife emotional and she was seen teary-eyed in the image that went viral on social media.

Ever since Maria Xisca and Nadal got together, the former has often been spotted at her husband’s matches, cheering for him at every point. She has been a pillar of support for Nadal during his highs and lows and the tears in her eyes only proved how much the moment meant to her. Following his emotional speech, Nadal also hinted about his future plans which may bring cheer to his fanbase.

Rafael Nadal motivated to come back stronger

The year 2024 is an important one for the sporting world as the Paris Olympics takes place in a few weeks. Despite his French Open campaign coming to a saddening end, there is light at the end of the tunnel for Rafael Nadal as he is hopeful about participating in the mega sporting event.

While remaining positive about his physical condition, Nadal said, “Body is feeling a bit better than two months ago. Maybe in two months I say it’s enough. I hope to be back on this court for the Olympics. That motivates me”.

Moreover, there are also talks going on that Nadal will potentially team up with his compatriot, Carlos Alcaraz to play doubles at the Olympics. Although Alcaraz termed this as difficult, it would be magical to see the two generational stars play together.
