It’s impossible to forget the crying faces of two of the greatest ATP players the world has ever seen, hand in hand in London in 2022. The golden days of Roger Federer‘s farewell, who bid goodbye to the sport in 2022 at the Laver Cup, are coming to our screens soon. In an attempt to let fans revisit those historical days, Amazon Prime Video took the initiative to dedicate a documentary, titled ‘Federer: Twelve Final Days’. With the release date set as June 10 for a world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, talking about the last days of Federer’s career would be remiss without his friend/ rival, Rafael Nadal.

The Rafa/ Roger relationship is well documented in history, with the Spaniard clearly stating, “I wouldn’t consider him a friend. But someone familiar, with whom I have a great relationship.” It was a rivalry for the ages, and an off-court friendship that we couldn’t stop fawning over. The latest documentary on the Swiss maestro’s career reiterates much of the same emotion.

The trailer presented a moment when members of the big three took their moments to say sweet words about their on-court rival and off-court friend. Rafa, mentioning that bidding him goodbye was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, said, “To know I will not have this feeling again, it’s painful.”

The two faced each other across the net 40 times, and each player took away something crucial from each game, no matter who won. “The rivalry stayed always on court and we knew it had always to be like that,” Nadal told GQ in May. The duo had collaborated for a Louis Vitton photoshoot, doing something together after a long, long time. Meanwhile Federer told the magazine, “On the court we have challenged each other to evolve, improve and reach heights we never would have managed without the rivalry.” But behind the scenes?

“Off the court our relationship has grown from fierce intense competitors to a lifelong friendship driven by our genuine personalities and shared values.” Well, it’s guaranteed then that ‘Federer: Twelve Final Days’ is going to be a tearjerker.

While his last presence as a pro was backed by Rafa, Nole, and Andy Murray, the movie that was never supposed to be meant for public will soon be released worldwide. As the trailer was worth giving goosebumps to die-hard admirers, it is evident that everyone will start the countdown for the whole title to be released. However, it wasn’t just Rafa who uncovered his emotions in the trailer.
