19th November 2024 marked the end of an era. After over two decades of service to the sport, Rafael Nadal bid an emotional adieu to tennis after Spain lost the quarterfinal tie against the Netherlands in the Davis Cup Finals. While the end was seen coming, it didn’t go according to Nadal’s plans as he failed to have the last laugh before calling it quits. Nonetheless, the home crowd gave a fitting farewell to Nadal, whose family and close friends were also present on the occasion. Additionally, Nadal’s agent, Carlos Costa, also shared a priceless memory that left Nadal’s sister, Mariabel, in awe.
Costa has been with Nadal ever since he made it to the big stage. Traveling with the Spanish legend for over 22 years, Costa accumulated many prized possessions, which he shared with the fans after Nadal bid adieu to tennis. It was an interesting collection as the frame captured some good throwback memories.
Costa took to his official Instagram handle and shared a picture that showed his ID cards of the tournaments attended over the years during Nadal’s illustrious career. Among them were the French Open and the Australian Open cards, where Nadal won 14 and 2 titles, respectively. “22 years around the world enjoying a great @rafaelnadal in the best tournaments in the world,” Costa wrote. The glimpse of the precious collection went viral on social media and also drew the attention of Maribel Nadal. She reacted with a couple of clap emojis and a heart-eyed emoji, denoting how much she loved the collection.

Costa played an instrumental role in creating the ‘Nadal’ brand and working out numerous sponsorship deals for the Spaniard. Describing the ‘Nadal’ brand, Costa once said, “A good investment in all senses. He behaves in a very professional way and feels that his sponsors are his partners. But the best way to describe it is real. Rafa is always himself, the way he is, and his sponsors know what he is and what he portrays. He is a young, fresh, entertaining character who has passion for the sport. Someone who reaches all segments of the market.”

He said, “The titles and numbers are there so people probably know that, but the way I would like to be remembered is being a good person from a small village in Mallorca where I had the luck to have my uncle as a tennis coach. I had a great family who supported me in every moment. I was a kid who followed their dreams, worked as hard as possible to be where I am today. At the end of the day, a lot of people try their best every single day, but I’m very lucky to have the life I have to live because of tennis.”
