The Canadian tennis player Felix Auger Aliassime joined hands with Rafael Nadal‘s uncle, Toni Nadal, in 2021 and later enjoyed some victorious campaigns. However, things are not the same, as the former world No. 6 has lately suffered a huge dip in form under the tutelage of the Spanish tennis coach. Emphasizing his coaching relationship with Nadal, Auger Aliassime recently issued some candid remarks.
In a recent honest conversation, the young ATP superstar opened up about how his season was hindered by injuries and uncertainty. Meanwhile, Auger Aliassime also brought his coach under scrutiny as he gears up for the upcoming season.

The tennis community has often deemed Toni Nadal not fully committed to Auger Aliassime since linking up with him in 2021. Things also got really weird at the 2022 French Open, where the Spanish coach refused to sit in the Canadian tennis player’s box during his match against nephew Rafael Nadal.
While many in the tennis world condemned the 62-year-old for doing this, he justified it, saying that family will always come first for him, no matter who he is coaching. Notably, in a recent interview with Eurosport, Auger Aliassime said, “It was difficult to commit to Toni to come to certain tournaments. So he didn’t accompany me for a certain period.”

In the process, the former world No. 6 player also revealed his objectives under the tutelage of Nadal in the upcoming season. He said, “But we continue and we will even repeat what we did in 2021 and 2022: the objective is for his presence to be more recurring, for him to come a little more often. With Frédéric, everything continues well. At the moment, I love how my team works.”
While he urged Nadal to accompany him more during the tournaments, Auger Aliassime also mentioned the French coach, Frédéric, who is also part of his coaching team. He added, “With Frédéric, everything continues well. At the moment, I love how my team works.”
