Carlos Moya has faith in his pupil, Rafael Nadal, who had a far-from-ideal start to the season. After Brisbane International, Nadal couldn’t attend the Australian Open due to prolonged pain from an ankle injury. It disheartened his fans, as many thought his time in professional tennis might be over. Following the coach’s comments, fans are eager to see the Spaniard tennis icon take the court very soon.
Moya previously had an apprehensive attitude when Nadal decided to return with the debut Grand Slam event of the season. He felt the Spanish maestro wasn’t ready to play in professional tournaments yet. On this note, however, his recent comments shed light on his newfound hope for the Spaniard, who is preparing to join professional tournaments once again.

A reliable tennis source tweeted on their X (formerly Twitter) that – “Rafael Nadal is training, and will likely return in Doha before playing in the United States, rather than playing on the clay in South America.” This source added Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya’s statements about why the Spaniard chose to play at the Doha Open before he made his presence at Indian Wells.

Carlos Moya said – “Surface changes are not easy. While it is true that the clay should be better for the joints, to go from hard court to the clay, to go back to the United States, and then again to the clay, we thought it was a little excessive. That’s why we chose this calendar, without so much change of surface.”

Unlike his previous statements, however, Moya also dished out a warning to the ATP. He said, “Rafa reminded me of a bull that has been locked up for a year, you release it and it goes like a beast. He will be a candidate to win the tournaments he plays.”
Nadal’s potential has always been recognized by his coach. Recently, he expressed great hope for the Spaniard, in an interview, stating “He is ready to give his all, to go full steam ahead. Of course, he knows that he’s not at his best level right now, but little by little he will increase it. That’s also part of our work.”
