Rafael Nadal marked the start of 2022 with a bang. Not only did he win the Australian Open, his 21st Major – the record in men’s singles, but is unbeaten this season. After a 5 month break due to a foot injury, Rafa played in the Melbourne Summer Set and then the Australian Open in January. Now, he will again take to the court in Mexico.
The official account of the tournament recently shared a video of Rafa in Mexico, saying hello to his fans. The Spaniard will be the 4th seed in the tournament.

El Nino has won the tournament 3 times before. He defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets in 2020 to claim his 3rd Mexican Open title. The event was played on clay courts for 20 years previously, but then shifted to hardcourt in 2014.
Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and other high-profile entrants in the tournament
The 2022 edition will have 5 of the top 10 players in the main draw. Along with the Spaniard, defending champion Alexander Zverev and Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev will also participate in Mexico Open. Medvedev is the top seed for the tournament, while Zverev is 2nd seed.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini are the other two entrants from the world’s top 10 rankings. Other confirmed players in the Mexican Open are Cameron Norrie, Lorenzo Sonego, and Pablo Busta.

The tournament will start from 21st February, and 4 more players will join in the singles category as qualifiers; the tournament will go on till the 26th.

Rafael Nadal holds the record for 2nd highest (90) ATP titles amongst the active player, 13 behind Roger Federer (103). Also, the winner of the tournament will be awarded 500 points in ranking, which will allow Rafa to close in on the 4th spot in the ATP rankings.
