Tennis icon Rafael Nadal is away from the court due to a hip injury. While he might be a no-show on the courts this year, his spirit remains the same. At the recent revealing of the NDL Ro Health project in association with Cantabria Labs, during an exclusive chat with Agencia EFE, reported by LARED, when urged about what he missed the most during his lapse, Nadal’s reaction was thoughtful.
“I haven’t been able to miss the competition much. I have a theory and it is that you can miss things when you feel like you can be there, right? When you see that you can’t because physically you can’t, then you can’t miss competing,” Nadal mused. He expanded on his approach during this disputing phase, “You have to live day to day and I have tried to be happy with what I have had and I think I have achieved it in my day-to-day life.“
But it wasn’t just tennis that the 22-time Grand Slam winner desired. A passionate golfer, Nadal’s voice tinged with regret as he confessed, “It has been difficult for me not to be able to play golf which at the end of the day is a way of competing, it has been difficult for me not to have been able to compete doing other things.”
He didn’t hide the pang he felt, missing the adrenaline of playing tennis. “Obviously in tennis I have missed being on the circuit, being able to compete, being able to feel like a player, going out to the best tracks with a full stadium; Of course I miss it, but I can’t live with it.”
Nadal’s past few seasons have garnered immense fan interest and anticipation from the tennis community. Additionally, in the chat with Agencia EFE, he expressed surprise at Novak Djokovic’s performance and praised Carlos Alcaraz as the finest player of his generation.

Nadal has won 92 ATP singles titles, with 36 Masters titles, and 63 of these on clay courts. Nadal is one of only two men to complete the Career Golden Slam in singles. His 81 successive wins on clay constitute the longest single-surface win streak in the Open Era. Nadal last appeared at the Australian Open 2023, where he had sustained a hip injury. Nadal’s next tournament will probably be the 2024 Australian Open, where he will be looking to win his 23rd grand slam singles title.
