Things couldn’t get any worse for the Spanish tennis legend, Rafael Nadal after the recent MRI scans came out. The 22-time singles Grand Slam champion suffered a huge injury blow during the second round fixture of the Australian Open. However, Nadal, with his fighting spirit, decided to continue despite struggling and grimacing against the American, Mackenzie McDonald.

The Spaniard suffered a considerable amount of pain in his left leg during his defeat at the Rod Laver Arena. Notably, his medical team had to do an MRI test the very next morning in Melbourne. The results are something that will break the hearts of a slew of Nadal fans.

Discouraging news for Rafael Nadal after his recent MRI test

The Spanish tennis star has reportedly suffered a grade 2 injury of the iliopsoas on his left leg. Rafael Nadal was spotted walking outside the Rod Laver Arena for a medical break during the second-round match of the Australian Open. He suffered considerable pain in his left leg as he was spotted struggling and grimacing through the match against Mackenzie McDonald.

Now that the MRI scans have shown a grade 2 injury of the iliopsoas, the 22-time singles Grand Slam champion will have to rest and treat it with “anti-inflammatory and physiotherapy.”

However, the normal recovery time for such an injury is being considered between 6 to 8 weeks. The Spaniard has further confirmed the news that he has a grade 2 injury on his left leg. He recently took to his Twitter account to announce the same. Throughout his second-round match at Rod Laver Arena, Nadal was grimacing with pain.

It was a heartbreaking scene for all the spectators there in Melbourne. Not just for the fans, but also for his wife, Maria Francisca Perello who was there at the player’s box along with Nadal’s sister. Maria was devastated to see her husband struggling with his injury woes as she was spotted weeping. She further needed consoling from Nadal’s sister.

Despite his injury, the world No. 2 player showed the true meaning of fighting spirit and sportsmanship as he continued on the court. The entire tennis community hailed the Spaniard who carried on fighting even after multiple calls from his box to retire from the match.
