Along with his heroics on the tennis court, Rafael Nadal is widely known for his work off the court as well. His contribution to society and donations towards important causes have always garnered affection from those he has helped.
One of his efforts recently earned him a great honor back in Mallorca, where Nadal resides. The 34-year-old will be named the ‘Adoptive Son’ of the Mallorcan town of Sant Llorenç.

How Rafael Nadal contributed to relief efforts
Two years ago, Sant Llorenç suffered from heavy floods that caused destruction and chaos in the village. The Spanish superstar, Nadal, himself stepped on the grounds and helped in relief efforts and cleaning works. He worked as a volunteer and made substantial donations to help those affected in any way.
The Manacor-native put on gloves and a pair of boots and actively cleaned the affected areas with other volunteers.
In addition, he also offered the ‘Rafa Nadal Academy’ for accommodation to those who lost their homes in the tragedy. More than 200 people had to vacate their homes due to the flooding.

Earning praise and respect from Federer and Djokovic
Nadal’s incredible gesture also earned appreciation from his two biggest rivals, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. They both posted messages for Nadal on Twitter, hailing his efforts. They were both competing in the Shanghai Masters at the time, while Nadal skipped the event.
“I know how important Mallorca is to Rafa and I have been in touch with him to see if I can help with anything,” Federer said in his message.
