Nick Kyrgios has not been on the tennis courts for some time. After his knee injury at the Stuttgart Open, he underwent surgery. Though he is trying hard to restart his career again his injuries are weighing heavily on his prospects. After the Halle Open exit, he withdrew from ATP 500 event in Halle. His travels, his interaction with his girlfriend, and his take on mental health issues are what often bring him to the news.

But even before his injuries, controversies have been a part of his public image. His emotional outbursts, his spitting at a fan, have all attracted public attention. Disrespecting a referee too caught headlines. But many people think Kyrgios is a different man now, especially his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi. Kyrgios revealed how the feelings of his girlfriend changed about him over time.

While talking to Alastair Campbell of Men’s Health, Nick Kyrgios opened up on a host of issues, including racism and mental health. After the interview, when Campbell told him that he was much different from what he expected, Kyrgios told him that his girlfriend too thinks so.

Probing deeper when the interviewer asked what was she expecting, Kyrgios replied, “I think she thought I was probably a bit too confident. She loves me now, though.” He delved deeper into such issues as the influence of parents on his upbringing and the psychological struggles of other players after being interviewed by Men’s Health.

Costeen Hatzi in the past too has tried to downplay the public image of Kyrgios which many dub as erratic. She once commented, “He is not as crazy as everyone thinks.” And that gives a different perspective about a player who leads the record of getting fined on ATP tours most of the time.
