How many languages can you speak fluently? 1,2 or 3? Well, it’s pretty normal to know a couple more languages apart from one’s mother tongue. But to be fluent in 11 languages, you must be a superhuman. And guess what? We’ve got one superhuman who always does extraordinary things on and off the court. He’s none other than the Serbian superstar, Novak Djokovic.

Recently, multilingual Novak Djokovic stole the show in Perth at the United Cup, which took the fans in awe. What did he do? Well, he just flaunted his proficiency in the 11th language, which rests beside Serbian, Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese and Japanese. Any guesses about which language it might be?

Recently the current world no.1 faced the reporters in a post-match press conference after Serbia’s emphatic victory against China at the United Cup. During the interview, a Chinese reporter got involved in a light-hearted exchange with the Serbian. She asked Djokovic to comfort his huge fan base in China following their defeat to Serbia by wishing them a Happy New Year in Mandarin. To this, as we all know, the Serbinator never shies away from challenges.

And boy! He came in well-prepared. As his teammate Olga Danilovic looked stunned, Djokovic not only wished the Chinese a Happy New Year but also went on to add his special wish by speaking fluently in Mandarin. Here’s how the fans reacted to seeing the 36YO polyglot in action. 

One of the fans looked in utter disbelief as he asked, “Is he even real?”

Another one said, “I have watched this on repeat obscene amount of times.”

While the others found it “mindboggling.”

Some of them even went on to doubt if he was from this planet.

The entire press room was in disbelief seeing Djokovic being so fluent in what seemed to be a ‘foreign language.’ Even the journalist lauded his abilities. Mandarin is not just a language of Chinese but a mode of showing cultural richness. And Novak Djokovic never fails to learn and indulge himself with different cultures around the world. And what’s a better mode of connection than language?

After defeating China emphatically by a 2-1 margin in the Group E clash in Perth at the United Cup, Serbia is looking forward to seal their place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
