When the former world No.5 defeated the Russian, Team World led 6-0, its highest-ever lead in the Laver Cup. Fritz has admitted on various occasions that he thrives in a team, as it makes him feel less lonely, and wins become even more fun when celebrated as a team.

Fritz is playing his 4th Laver Cup and each year, he is becoming unbeatable. The Atlanta Open champion plays his best at the Laver Cup singles; his win-loss record is 6-1. He expressed, “I feel like my record in team events is really strong because I have a team cheering for me. I get pumped up. I?m excited to play for them. It just adds more pressure and fire to it. I think I play better in those situations.”?

 

After the American set his team at the top, Team Europe’s Casper Ruud bagged the first win for Team Europe. After defeating Tommy Paul, Ruud expressed a similar confidence to Fritz. He said, “We?re young and we?re strong and we?re ready for the rest of the weekend.”?

However, Team Europe is under immense pressure, and though it has more experienced players, the youngsters of Team World are overpowering them all.

Team World continues its dominance on the 2nd day of the tournament

The debutants of McEnroe’s team are slaying on the black court, and if their form continues, Laver Cup shall witness one of the youngest Americans on the winning side. The tournament started with Ben Shelton playing the first match against Arthur Fils. Though it is the 21-year-old’s debut match, he clinched a straight-set win for his team.

McEnroe explained that they chose the US Open semi-finalist for his unmatchable energy. The Superbrat laid his hopes on the sensational Shelton, and the American star started the winning streak of Team World. Since Frances Tiafoe defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the recent match, Team Europe now stands 6 points behind its opponent.
